How Month Lengths Work
Most months always have the same length: 30 or 31 days, following the familiar rhyme "30 days hath September, April, June, and November." February is the exception — it has 28 days in a common year and 29 days in a leap year. The calculator applies this automatically, so you never have to remember the rule yourself.
The Leap Year Rule
Under the modern Gregorian calendar, a year is a leap year if it is divisible by 4. Century years (divisible by 100) are the exception to that rule — they are only leap years if they are also divisible by 400. That is why 2024 and 2028 are leap years, while 1900 was not, but 2000 was. For historical dates, the tool also offers the simpler Julian calendar rule, which treats every year divisible by 4 as a leap year with no century exception.
