Common Fiscal Year Conventions
The calculator ships with presets for the most widely used fiscal calendars: the Calendar Year (January-December), the US Federal Government fiscal year (October-September, labeled by the ending calendar year), the UK and India company fiscal year (April-March), and the Australia fiscal year (July-June). How the Fiscal Year Is Determined
Given a fiscal year start month M and a reference date, the calculator checks whether the date's month falls on or after M. If so, the fiscal year began in the same calendar year; otherwise it began the previous calendar year. The fiscal year then runs for exactly twelve calendar months, from the first day of month M to the day before month M recurs the following calendar year. Days elapsed, days remaining, and percent complete are computed from that range, correctly accounting for leap years (a fiscal year can total 365 or 366 days depending on which months it spans).
Start-Year vs. End-Year Labeling
Fiscal years that don't align with the calendar year can be named two different ways. Some conventions label the fiscal year after the year it starts in — a UK fiscal year beginning April 2026 is called FY2026. Others label it after the year it ends in — the US federal fiscal year that begins October 2025 and ends September 2026 is also called FY2026, even though it starts the year before. The calculator lets you toggle between both conventions so the label always matches how your organization refers to it.

Limitations
The calculator assumes fiscal quarters and months follow ordinary calendar month boundaries, with each fiscal year spanning exactly twelve calendar months starting on the first of a month. Some retailers and manufacturers use alternative "4-4-5" or "4-5-4" week-based fiscal calendars, which divide the year into fixed-length weeks rather than calendar months and can produce slightly different period boundaries than shown here.
