Nth Weekday of Month Calculator – Find the Date of Any Ordinal Weekday

Many of the dates that matter most aren't fixed day-of-month numbers — they're defined by an ordinal weekday. Thanksgiving is the 4th Thursday of November. Mother's Day is the 2nd Sunday of May. Board meetings, payroll cycles, and recurring calendar invites are often scheduled as "the 2nd Tuesday of every month" rather than a specific date. The Nth Weekday of Month Calculator instantly finds the exact calendar date for any such rule, so you never have to count squares on a calendar by hand.

How the Calculation Works

Given a month, year, weekday, and occurrence (1st through 5th, or Last), the calculator locates the first day of the month and determines how many days forward it must move to land on the target weekday. That gives the first occurrence. Each subsequent occurrence is exactly 7 days later, so the Nth occurrence is simply firstOccurrence + (n - 1) × 7 days. If that computed date overflows into the next month, the requested occurrence doesn't exist for that month/year combination.

Why "5th" Sometimes Doesn't Exist

Every month has at least four occurrences of each weekday, but only some months — depending on how many days they have and which weekday the month starts on — have a fifth. A 31-day month, for example, has five occurrences of exactly three weekdays. When you request a 5th occurrence that isn't there, the tool shows a clear warning and suggests the Last occurrence instead, which always resolves to a valid date regardless of whether the month has four or five of that weekday.

Selecting "Last" is not the same as selecting "5th" — it always returns the final occurrence in the month, whether that happens to be the 4th or the 5th one.

Reverse Lookup

Sometimes you have a date and need to know its ordinal position — for example, confirming that November 19 is the "3rd Thursday" of November.
