Three Ways to Define a Range
The tool supports three range modes. Month mode counts occurrences within a single calendar month. Year mode counts across an entire calendar year — handy for answering questions like "how many Mondays are in 2026?" Custom Range mode lets you pick any start and end date, which is useful for pay periods, project timelines, or academic terms that don't line up with calendar months.
How the Count Is Calculated
The calculator walks forward one day at a time from the start date to the end date, checking each day's weekday against your selection using native calendar arithmetic. This approach automatically accounts for leap years and varying month lengths without relying on manual day-count tables, so results are exact for any date from year 1 through 9999.
Counting Multiple Weekdays at Once
Select more than one weekday — for example Saturday and Sunday — to get a combined total plus a per-weekday breakdown showing exactly how many of each occurred. This is the fastest way to answer "how many weekend days are in this range?" without adding two separate calculations together by hand.
Nth-Occurrence Filtering
Some recurring schedules only apply on specific ordinal occurrences of a weekday — a biweekly team meeting on the "1st and 3rd Wednesday," for instance. Turning on the Nth-Occurrence Filter lets you restrict the count to chosen ordinals (1st through 5th, or Last) within each month of the range, so the result matches exactly how the recurrence rule plays out on the calendar.
Excluding Holidays and Closures
Add specific dates to the Exclude Dates list — public holidays, office closures, or cancelled sessions — and any weekday occurrence on those dates is removed from both the count and the results list. Excluded dates that fall outside the selected range are simply ignored, with a notice explaining why.
Reading the Results
Results include the total count, the first and last matching date, a chronological list of every matching date, and (when the range spans multiple months) a per-month breakdown showing how the occurrences are distributed. The full matching-dates list can be exported as a CSV file for import into a spreadsheet or scheduling tool.
