How the Calculation Works
Each of the 12 zodiac signs corresponds to a fixed tropical date range, for example Jul 23 – Aug 22 for Leo. The calculator compares the month and day of your birth date against this ordered table of ranges, correctly handling the December-to-January wraparound for Capricorn (Dec 22 – Jan 19). Once the sign is identified, its element, quality, ruling planet, and lucky attributes are pulled from the same reference table.
Cusp Birthdays
Birth dates that fall within a day or two of a sign boundary are often called cusp birthdays. When enabled, the calculator flags these dates and names both adjoining signs — for example, a birthday on July 22 sits on the Cancer–Leo Cusp, and traits from either sign may feel relevant.
