About This Tool

Random Trivia Question Generator – Instant Quiz Content

Planning a pub quiz, classroom icebreaker, or game night and don't want to spend an hour researching questions? The Random Trivia Question Generator solves that instantly. Click Generate and get one or several trivia questions pulled from a curated bank spanning general knowledge, science, history, geography, sports, entertainment, movies, music, literature, and technology — each with four multiple-choice options and the correct answer hidden until you reveal it.

Ten Categories, Three Difficulty Levels

Not every audience wants the same questions. A hard science question about atomic numbers might stump a casual family game night, while a room of trivia regulars will breeze through easy geography facts. That's why every question in the bank is tagged with a Category — General Knowledge, Science, History, Geography, Sports, Entertainment, Movies, Music, Literature, or Technology — and a Difficulty level — Easy, Medium, or Hard. Combine both filters to build exactly the round you need: pick "Movies" and "Easy" for a casual watch-party warm-up, or "History" and "Hard" for a challenging finals round.

Multiple Choice or Open-Ended

Set the Answer Format to Multiple Choice to display four answer options per question — select one and the correct choice highlights, with your pick flagged if it was wrong. Prefer to read questions out loud without showing options, like a traditional pub quiz host? Switch to Open-Ended and each question shows only a Reveal Answer button, keeping the correct response hidden until someone calls it out.

Batch Generation for Full Quiz Nights

Need an entire round at once? Set Number of Questions to generate up to 50 questions in a single click — a numbered list ready to copy into your notes or download as a CSV for printing physical trivia night handouts. Running a recurring quiz series instead? Turn on Avoid Repeats and the tool tracks every question you've already seen in the current session, drawing a fresh one each time until the filtered pool has been fully used.

Tip
Enter a Seed value before generating to lock in a reproducible question set — the same seed and filters always produce the exact same sequence, which is handy for sharing a planned quiz round with a co-host ahead of time.

How the Randomization Works

Behind the scenes, the generator filters the question bank down to the matching category and difficulty, then performs a Fisher–Yates shuffle to select questions without bias — no question is more likely to appear than another, and multiple-choice options are reshuffled each time so the correct answer isn't always in the same position. Leaving the Seed field blank uses the Web Crypto API for a cryptographically random draw; entering a seed switches to a deterministic algorithm instead, so a specific set can be recreated on demand.

Learn Something With Every Answer

Toggle Include Answer Explanation to show a short fun-fact alongside each revealed answer — context on why the answer is correct, a bit of history, or a related detail worth knowing. It turns a simple quiz round into a small learning moment, which is especially useful for classroom trivia or team-building sessions where the goal is engagement, not just scorekeeping.

Common Use Cases

Pub quiz hosts and party planners use the tool to build entire rounds in minutes without writing a single question themselves. Teachers pull easy, kid-friendly general knowledge questions for classroom icebreakers and harder science or history questions for review games. Team-building facilitators mix categories for corporate game nights, and content creators generate quick trivia-of-the-day posts for social media — all without needing an internet connection or external API, since the entire question bank runs directly in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Random Trivia Question Generator free?

Yes, Random Trivia Question Generator is totally free :)

Can I use the Random Trivia Question Generator offline?

Yes, you can install the webapp as PWA.

Is it safe to use Random Trivia Question Generator?

How does the Random Trivia Question Generator work?

Choose a category and difficulty (or leave them on 'Any'), pick how many questions you want, and click Generate. The tool draws random trivia questions from a curated bank spanning general knowledge, science, history, geography, sports, entertainment, movies, music, literature, and technology.

What's the difference between Multiple Choice and Open-Ended mode?

Multiple Choice shows four answer options per question and highlights your pick as correct or incorrect once revealed. Open-Ended hides only the correct answer behind a Reveal Answer button, which is handy for verbal quiz hosting where you don't want choices displayed.

Can I generate a full quiz set instead of one question at a time?

Yes — set 'Number of Questions' to any value from 1 to 50 to produce a numbered batch, useful for building a complete game night packet, classroom quiz, or pub trivia round in one click.

How does Avoid Repeats work?

When enabled, the tool remembers every question you've already seen in your current session and excludes those from future draws, so a multi-round quiz never repeats a question until you reset the history or the filtered pool is exhausted.

Can I reproduce the same question set later?

Yes — enter a seed before generating. The same seed combined with the same filters always reproduces the exact same sequence of questions, which is handy for sharing a planned quiz set with a co-host.

Can I export or print the generated questions?

Yes — use Copy to copy the question set (with an answer key) to your clipboard, or Download CSV to save it as a spreadsheet-ready file for printing physical trivia night handouts.
