Would You Rather Generator – Never Run Out of Icebreakers
Every party, road trip, or classroom eventually needs a conversation starter, and brainstorming one on the spot rarely goes smoothly. The Would You Rather Generator solves that instantly. Pick a category, click Generate, and get a fresh, thought-provoking prompt drawn from a curated bank of 180+ questions spanning funny, deep, gross, food, travel, and more.
Choose a Category and Intensity
Ten themes are built in: Funny, Deep / Philosophical, Gross, Kid-Friendly, Dating / Relationships, Work / Career, Superpowers, Food, Travel, and Survival. Select one category to focus the pool, or leave it on "All Categories" for a fully mixed experience. The Exclude Categories checkboxes let you skip specific themes entirely — useful if a group wants everything except, say, Gross or Dating questions.
Three Ways to Play
Single Question mode generates one prompt at a time for casual browsing, with an optional Reveal One Option at a Time setting that hides Option B until you click Reveal — mirroring how the game plays when read aloud. Batch mode produces a numbered list of up to 50 questions at once, perfect for pre-loading a quiz night or party game. Party Mode queues a fixed-length session and shows a "Question X of Y" progress indicator with a Next Question button, so a whole group can move through the same sequence together.
How the Randomization Works
The generator filters the question bank down to your selected category, exclusions, audience filter, and keyword, then draws a question using the Web Crypto API for a fair, unpredictable result. Turn on Avoid Repeats and the tool remembers every question already shown in your session, so nothing repeats until the filtered pool is exhausted — at which point you can reset the session to start fresh. Entering a Session Seed switches to a deterministic sequence, so the same seed and filters always reproduce the exact same set of questions, making it easy to share a specific run with friends.
Auto-Pick and Export
Can't decide between the two options yourself? Hit Auto-Pick for a fun coin-flip simulation that highlights one side of the card. Every result can be copied to your clipboard with one click, and Batch mode results can be downloaded as a .txt or .csv file — handy for printing a game sheet or importing questions into another app.
Common Use Cases
Party hosts use Random or Funny categories to keep the energy up. Teachers and camp counselors reach for Kid-Friendly with the Superpowers or Food categories for safe, engaging icebreakers. Couples explore the Dating or Deep categories for meaningful conversation on date night, while road-trippers queue up a full Party Mode session to pass the time. Content creators use Batch mode to pull a ready-made list for a social media post or quiz.
Why "Would You Rather" Works
Forcing a choice between two imperfect options — rather than asking an open-ended question — tends to reveal more about a person's values and sense of humor than small talk ever could. That's exactly why the format has stayed a go-to icebreaker for classrooms, first dates, and team-building exercises alike.
